Key points:The decathlon event will move from Sydney Olympic park to Southbank park in 2021Event entries industry councillor Paul Wigglesworth says the decision is not political, it is practical and affordable for venues and venues aloneThe event has been moved from the Victorian Olympic Park on the outskirts of Sydney to the Olympic Park, and is being hosted by a new event entry industry councilThe event was initially held in the Victorian Capital, but has been relocated to the Olympics Park on its own site, Mr Wigglingworth said.
“The decathalon is a sport where you are going to be competing against other athletes,” he said.
Mr Wiggingsworth said the event was “not politically, it’s practical and cheap for venues” and the event could be held on a larger venue.
“We’re very much looking at how to make the event more affordable, so we’re moving it to a new venue in 2021,” he told ABC Radio Adelaide.
“It’s a sporting sport and it’s a really popular sport in Sydney, so the decision to move it is quite straightforward and easy.”
The decathon is a sports event in which participants are allowed to compete in as many as three events per day.
The event is run by the event entry business.
The venue is in the south of Sydney and is home to the Adelaide Oval, the AFL’s Swans’ home ground, as well as the Sydney Cricket Ground and the Adelaide River.
